Active School

March 2022

The Presentation Camogie team had their first match of the league yesterday, students from 5th and 6th Class came together to represent the school.
The girls put on an excellent display of camogie against the Ursuline. The Ursuline were victorious on the day by just two points! We are super proud of our team and cannot wait to follow their journey over the next couple of months.
Well done to all involved, we look forward to welcoming Ballygunner NS next week to the Pres!

December 2020

Our school has constructed a Christmas garden along our Active Walkway, with Christmas light and large wooden decorations. It is lovely for a mindful walk or to take part in the Christmas themed orienteering trails on the walkway too.

Waterford reached the All Ireland hurling final and we were so excited to be chosen to take part in Centra’s “Fans in the Stands.” 100 cardboard cutouts were delivered and we got the chance to paint self portraits on them. These were brought to Croke Park ahead of the All Ireland final between Waterford and Limerick. We wore blue and white on Friday 11th to show our support to the Waterford team. Even though the result was not in our favour, we were still very proud of the team on the day. Up the Deise!

November 2020

4th, 5th and 6th classes took part in the “What club are you in?” survey and the committee members complied the results and made this pictogram. It shows there are many clubs in the community for all different sports.

October 2020

We are loving skipping at the moment during playtimes. Several classes are also undertaking the “Climb the Heights” challenge, skipping the height of mountains such as Carrauntoohill, Mt Olympus and Mt Rysy.

5th Class have also started their Safe Cycling lessons with Waterford Greenway Bike Hire.

September 2020

We are doing plenty of PE and physical activity outside. We have also set up our Active Schools Walkway around the prefabs and school garden. We have been lucky enough to do some of our PE lessons over in Walsh Park.

June 2020

Well done to everyone who took part in our Virtual Sports Day.

May 2020

Super work during Active Home Week. Pupils completed some writing, Maths and of course plenty of PE this week. Over 150 pupils earned a certificate for sending us in a photo or video of their work.

March 2020

Well done to our soccer teams from 5th and 6th who took part in the FAI soccer blitz in WIT Arena. Jerseys were sponsored by Grey’s Spar in Barrack St. We were just getting into the swing of our WOW wall before the school closure. Pupils earned medals and trophies for sports such as dancing, athletics, taekwondo and swimming.

February 2020

We ran our poster competition in February, well done to all the classes who thought up slogans and made their posters. The winners were Ms Walsh’s 6th class with the slogan “Be Kind. Exercise your body and your mind.”

January 2020

“Jump into January” was a roaring success. This was our Active Break challenge, where every class completed an active break every day. Pupils enjoyed activities such as Zumba, Go Noodle and boxercise.

December 2019

Our two 5th Classes started their job as playground monitors this month. 4 take part each Wednesday, leading playground games such as beanbag targets, Duck Duck Goose and others.

November 2019

Welcome to our Active school committee, with representatives from all 4th, 5th and 6th Classes. Their first job was to put posters up around the school, tell the classes about the importance of being active and inviting everyone – pupils and staff alike to sign up to the challenge!

Active Home Week 2020

A big well done to everyone for taking part in Active Home Week. We certainly enjoyed seeing your photographs and videos that you sent to us.

The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.

Presentation Primary is currently working towards our first Active School Flag. In order to achieve this, we will be running Active School initiatives throughout the year. For us to achieve the ASF, we have to satisfy criteria under 4 headings.
1. Physical Activity
2. Physical Education
3. Partnerships
4. Active School week
